Embarrass yourself before someone else does

Ever get called out by a coach or a teammate?  Play long enough and every player will have that happen to them at least once.  It could be a teammate who jumps you for not running hard down the line.  It could be a coach jumping you for not trusting your stuff and becoming timid on the mound.

Regardless of who does it or why it happens, getting called out is no fun.  Your ego takes a hit and there are definitely some hurt feelings and embarrassment.  Especially if it is done in front of everyone.  However, after your emotions calm down and your rational brain regains control, players typically realize that there was probably some (or a lot!) of truth in what was said to you.

My previous post was called Don’t eat the cheese.  I guess you could call this a part 2 of sorts.  If you did not get a chance to read that post, click HERE.  Players who begin eating the cheese become prime candidates for being called out by teammates and coaches.

If you don’t want to experience the embarrassment of being called out then start calling yourself out.  Be honest about assessing your abilities and performance as a player and become fanatical about developing a plan for improving upon them.

Embarrass yourself in your mind now and again and nobody will have to do it for you in public.
